Brew-ti-ful Savings for Bear and Bean Espresso With Smartpay
Business owners need to consider many factors when opening a new business. For Bear and Bean Espresso House owner Yianni, it was how he could run a growing cafe while saving money and servicing his customers.
A New Cafe On The Block
Since opening Bear and Bean Espresso a little over 12 months ago, Yianni has had to wear many hats, including admin, quality control and customer management. He also has 7 staff members who help run the business.
The success of Bear and Bean Espresso can be attributed to Yianni’s understanding of his customers. He has been able to divide his main clientele into two categories. The first group consists of workers who come in during the morning rush for reasonably priced grab-and-go pastries and coffee before starting their day. The second group includes customers who prefer to sit in the cafe throughout the day for breakfast and brunch. They appreciate the unique flavour profiles and excellent customer service from the staff.

Smartpay, First Choice When it Comes to EFTPOS for Small Businesses
Yianni had used Smartpay before for his other businesses, making the switch when he experienced issues with other providers. So, when he opened Bear and Bean Espresso, Smartpay was the obvious choice.
“I have used Smartpay in my previous businesses. At the time, when I started my business, they (Smartpay) was one of the first to offer surcharging, which, as a small business owner, was an absolute game changer,” he said.
Yianni admits that even though he has noticed the increase in EFTPOS competitors, he has never felt compelled to change providers. Instead he has stayed with Smartpay because of their stellar customer service.
Bear and Bean Espresso also use the new Android terminal, which Smartpay debuted last year. The staff has enjoyed its new slick design and easy-to-use features.
He explained, “The device is simple and easy to use. Super fast and responsive. Troubleshooting of the terminal has also been just as easy.”
Coffee as Strong as its Savings for a Growing Business
Yianni first heard of Smartpay after a friend told him about them.
He said, “Initially, I was referred to them by a friend of mine who was using them and loved them. Switching over to Smartpay was an easy process.”
He added, “Smartpay has saved us approximately $6,000 a quarter. That’s $24,000 a year! This is very valuable savings, particularly during the quiet seasons. It means I don’t have to prioritise between bills in order to provide an EFTPOS machine, which everyone is using these days.”
He continued, “With the savings, I am able to ensure that there is less juggling of the business’s finances to ensure that our needs are met. It is far easier to save to upgrade our equipment and trial new products.”

“I would definitely recommend Smartpay to other businesses and have already done so.”
